The Swan Valley is Perth's premier wine destination and Western Australia's oldest wine growing region, situated just 30 minutes from Perth City. The area, known as the ‘Valley of Taste’, has world-class wineries, restaurants, cafes, fresh producers, breweries, arts & crafts and accommodation. The Swan Valley is an inviting smorgasbord of wining and dining – a kaleidoscope of taste.

Carilley Estate Winery
23 Hyem Road
Herne Hill
Telephone: 92966190

Situated over looking the picturesque river gum lined Susannah Brook and surrounded by delightful gardens. The restaurant/café serves just coffee to an extensive menu and wine tasting is available.

The carpark is gravel, but reasonablely smooth. The restaurant, outside dining area under sails and the gardens are all accessible. The unisex disabled toilet is around the back, accessible under cover of the veranda. The toilet is a reasonable size, has disabled friendly fittings and has a grab rail. Helpful staff.

The delightful gardens or the opening window lined indoors make for a comfortable and casual environment to enjoy a long lunch.

Feral Brewery

Another of the enticing eateries dotted around the Swan Valley, only with the added bonus of their deliciously quirky beers to accompany the Australiana menu. The gravel carpark while bumpy is okay for wheelchairs and the restaurant is uncluttered making wheelchair access easy. An outside accessible eating area is available too. There is an unisex disabled toilet with friendly fittings and a rail – a tad small (like many), but I backed in and got the job done. (figuratively speaking)

Good food, good beer and excellent staff. Recommended.

Houghton Winery (Including Jacaranda Café)
Dale Road
Middle Swan
Jacaranda Café
Telephone: 9274 9543

Houghton Wines is situated in the heart of the Swan Valley, just off the Great Northern Highway. With its renowned reputation as the most awarded West Australian winery and with such lovely parkland setting surrounding the new jazzy cellars it is really worth a look.

Houghton Winery (Including Jacaranda Café)

There is two Acrod parking bays directly out front of the tasting and sales building. This building is accessible and gloriously roomy. Straight through out the back is the Jacaranda Café where you can enjoy a coffee or a meal under the mottled shade of overhead vines. An alternative spot to take your bottle of wine is the adjoining parkland where picnic tables are scattered under the Jacaranda and Pine trees. A great spot to enjoy a wine with friends. Despite bumpy cobblestone like paving around the café and the odd patch of spongy lawn, it is all wheelchair accessible.

A unisex disabled toilet is under the Jacarandas near the café. It is roomy, has a wall mounted grab rail, friendly fittings and an automatic light, which comes on upon entering.

Margaret River Chocolate Company
5123 West Swan Road
West Swan
Telephone: 92501588

A must see for those with a sweet tooth. You can watch the chocolate being made, enjoy some free samples and purchase a range of chocolates and sweets. There is a café attached, which is accessible also.

There are two Acrod parking bays next to a level footpath leading to the entrance. There is no disabled toilet.

Oasis Resort Lodge
10250 West Swan Road
Henley Brook
Telephone: 92965555

An inviting accommodation option in the valley surrounded by an array of family entertainment, including Supa Golf, Laser Corps and the Mash Brewery on the same property - not all suitable for the wheelie, but great for the family. Helpful staff.

The motel/lodge type accommodation set on landscaped gardens has two disabled rooms. The rooms are roomy enough for the wheelchair with access down both sides of the bed. There is an Acrod parking bay.

The bathroom is large enough, with rails by the toilet and shower, a hand held shower and friendly fittings. There is no shower seat, but a sturdy plastic outdoor chair is supplied. Not suitable for all.

Riverbank Winery
126 Hamersley Road
Caversham

Ideally situated on the hilltop overlooking the vine covered flood plains of the Swan River. A very picturesque and serene setting perfect for sampling the local vintage or indulging in some fine food in the restaurant.

Riverbank Winery

The carpark is graveled, but manageable. Access to the building is good, including the restaurant, veranda and lawn. The veranda is a pleasant place to enjoy a meal with the vista as entrée. There is a unisex disabled toilet with rails and friendly fittings. The toilet is a little tight, but I squeezed in. Helpful staff.

Sandalford Winery
3210 West Swan Road
Caversham
Restaurant Phone - 93749300

Sandalford is another of the bigger wine producers with a large range of premium wines, which you can sample in their cellar. Well worth a visit. To the left of the main entrance the cellar sales area is brimming with wine related giftware, arts & crafts and wine, of course. To the right is a rustic and cosy little restaurant. Both are wheelchair accessible and very inviting.

The parking, which is a couple of hundred metres from the cellar, has no Acrod parking marked, but there is adequate room. The throughway to the cellar is easily accessible. The unisex disabled toilet is somewhat hidden. It is not signposted, but it is behind the door leading to the other toilets next to the stairs. It is roomy and has a grab rail, but standard fittings.

Stewarts Restaurant
1235 Great Northern Highway
Upper Swan
Telephone: 92966966

Nestled next to the Brookleigh Equestrian Park and set among the vines. Dine from a la carte menu in the restaurant or coffee in the courtyard.

One Acrod parking bay in the side carpark – friendly kerbs. The restaurant and courtyard is all wheelchair accessible, and there was enough room to be able to move around the restaurant between the tables. The unisex disabled toilet is just to the left of the restaurant entrance. A little tight for the electric wheelchair, but adequate. Disabled friendly fittings and toilet, and a wall mounted grab rail.

A rustic décor and open plan makes the restaurant a very pleasant place to sit and enjoy the food and wine.
